first blog post, woohoo!! i thought something like this would be pretty fitting for my first blog post, a sort of introduction to my blog! kind of.
this was originally made by Mousecky, and i got inspired by Corn who also did this. ^*^

1. Please introduce yourself.

-- hello hello!! my name's buddygart / cloverpillar! you'd probably already know that if you saw my about page, though... >*> i love all colors but my favorite combination is orange, blue and green. and umm.. whats something else i could add... my favorite season is winter! and my birthday's february 16th! just two days after valentines... i think that's pretty neat :*] also i like using emoticons with this * symbol! it reminds me alot of star-nosed moles, my favorite type of mole.

2. How long have you been making websites?

-- i wish i could say a couple years now, but apart from a couple failed attemps, i've just recently started...

3. And what got you into the hobby?

--around 2023 or so i think i saw a neocities-related video in my youtube recommendations? that or i just stumbled upon neocities myself. either way, seeing other people's beautiful creations got me inspired to make my own site!

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?

--big, cool sites with creative looks! i can understand the want for a more simplistic and minamalist site, especially when taking accessability into account, but personally my favorite type of site is one with a cool, memorable look that inspires me!

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?

--i tend to flip-flop between sketching it out and just making it on a whim. i sketched my home page out, but my blog page was made entirely without any planning and in one sitting. i try to make my site as original as i can, but i do take a biiiit of inspiration from other sites i find >*> in fact, before changing the blog page to green, it was originally orange! but, as much as i love orange, i decided to change it because i didn't want it to seem like i was copying the look of Corn's site. (⸝⸝⸝╸*╺⸝⸝⸝)

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.

--i have many, but Thilinky and Corn's sites are two that come to mind right away! but honestly, all the sites i have on my home page have inspired me in some way!

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?

--it's tough for me to say what exactly's my favorite part for sure... coding is super fun, but nothing beats just how exciting is to update the site and get new stuff up!

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?

--layout and theming... sometimes i just don't know what i want my page to look like, which is awful when i reaaaally want to work on my site! >*<

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?

--i may keep a similar layout for some pages, like the blog page and it's entries, but my goal is to make something new and cool for each page!

10. How confident are you with CSS?

--i'm no pro yet, but i'd say i'm pretty good at it if i can make a whole site like this!

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?

--...ummmmm... next question! (^*^ᵕ)
just kidding! i think i have the handle of it now... but this is my first time using it... i'm still a beginner, okay!!

12. What is your favourite HTML element?

--ummm... div? it's what makes everything appear in the first place...

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

--width: 500px;

14. Do you know JavaScript?

--no, not really... i'd like to understand it someday... maybe...

15. How about PHP?

--despite knowing what i was getting into with this, every question about coding has me feeling more and more like a noob... (,,╥*╥,,)

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

--currently, yes! though all of the pages have their own "looks", i want my site overall to be bright, cool, cute, and colorful!

17. Are you more focused on content or design?

--ummm.. well right now i'm focused on design because i'm still working on the rest of my site as of writing this... i think i might be misunderstanding this a bit... (˚ ˃̣̣̥*˂̣̣̥ )

18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?

--not now. if neocities ever goes down i might buy my own domain, but right now, no.

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?

--i think they're neat!

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?

--i think??? i don't use anything to check it but nothing really goes wrong when i put it onto neocities soooo... i'd imagine... >*>

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?

--cute cute cute!!! i loooove buttons!! and i loooooooooove banners!!!! i love how unique they can be and how much soul you can fit onto those small aspect ratios. each one is like a small glimpse into the tastes of the person who made it.

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?

--i like them! i feel silly not having much to say about them given how passionate i was just being about buttons, buuut... i don't have much to say on them. they're fun to look at! i like looking at them. i like seeing the pretty colors move.

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?

--well, i suppose it would depend on how i felt. i'd probably try to remake how my site looks if i started over again right now, but i can't say how i'd go about it in, say, two or so years from now.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?

--maybe a bit... i don't let it get to my head, though.

25. What text editor do you use?

--Visual Studio Code, maybe sometimes notepad. but usually Visual Studio Code.

26. Why do you use that one?

--it has a live preview and i like that. also the tutorials i was trying to follow at the time all used Visual Studio Code. so then i did, too.

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?

--i try to be good about it and not use too much space, but all the images you see on my site are hosted on my site / in it's files. whenever i consider using something else, the thought "well what if it shuts down and the photos are lost forever?" flashes through my head whenever i think of it... >*>

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

--theres a *debate* around it?? o*0 jeez! i think both hosts and the sites on them are neat! i was originally going to use nekoweb because i found the customizable page images cute, but i chose here because more storage space is offered. :*p

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?

--ummmm... i don't know... i'm using around 0.6 of it so far according to neocities... it'll probably be more by the time i'm "done" with all of it, though, since i'm still working on it as of writing this... <*<

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?

--of course i do! don't want to lose anything!

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?

--i don't know, i suppose i pick and choose... anything that looks nice to me! doesn't matter if it's simple or highly-visual.

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

--noooo, not really... i just use whatever pretty colors i feel like using :*p

33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?

--back when first trying in 2023-2024 i quit multiple times because i just couldn't wrap my head around coding... (𖦹*𖦹) but now i've got a hang of it! not giving up now!

34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?

--i know my buddy Edgar had a site, but i don't know when the last time it updated the site was, or if it'd even want me linking it's site here... other than that, no, not yet... that's okay, though!

35. Do people in your real life know about your website?

--i've told my siblings about it! but not anybody else, yet.

36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?

--well right now, yeah! might slow down a bit when i've gotten all the main stuff done... i've been updating every day to every couple days.

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?

--i like how everything looks currently, but there were a couple revisions and recodes of the home page... and the about page has already gone through 2 redesigns!

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?

--i'd say with the blog and multiple pages dedicated to stuff i like, it's both me-focused and hobby-focused!

39. Do you do web design professionally?

--noooo.... i don't wanna!

40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?

--nothing yet, i'm still a minor and i don't have a car. once i become an adult, though, i'd love to do freelance art! there are also a couple jobs i think would be fun, even just to experience for a bit and not as a long, serious thing. working at a mall seems fun, and there's an arcade an hour or so away from me that feels like it'd be fun working at. maybe they'd let me on the pop'n music cab when nobody else is around... how devilish... >*>

41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?

--nope!

42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?

--yep! they're all in the socials page!

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?

--i use Discord to chat with friends, but i don't use it for much outside of that.

44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?

--i either just turn random videos on or turn on music. usually just BEMANI music... i think i might have to expand my music tastes a bit, 75 percent of what i listen to now is rhythm game music...

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?

--right now i only have one site! maybe if i ever want to dedicate sites to certain projects i'll make another... or maybe webrings, if i ever want to make those...

46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?

--maaaany... there's a lot of things i like, i can't help but talk about a lot of stuff on my site!

47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?

--i try to present my real self, but i always find myself talking a bit differently here than i do around my friends... but i think that's normal, soooo... :*p

48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?

--not yet... i wonder if i will one day :*0

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?

--yeah! i think it's pretty good :*]

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?

--don't stress out about stuff too much! have fun with making your website, don't feel bad about it!

51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?

--gifcities!!!! old sites!!!! sozai sites!!!! wayback machine!!!! so many of my backgrounds were found on old geocities hong kong sites that i found through gifcities!!! i plan on linking alot of what i find in the resources page, but literally theres soooo much cool stuff you can find by digging around!

52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?

--uuhhh.... uuuuhhhh... i don't know... i feel silly answering with "i dont know" buuut... i don't knoooow....

53. Do you consider different browsers?

--no, not really... i tend to just stick to firefox... if i HAVE to for something i'll use chrome...

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.

--firefox! i don't know. i just like it. and now i'm convincing >you< to use it! is it working?

55. And what OS are you on?

--11. i'd like to use 10 but the laptop i'm using came with 11. i don't want to try changing that right now because i don't want to accidentally lose anything.

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?

--i waaaaannt windows 10!!!! i waaant windooows teeeeen!!!!! but alas... i'll be stuck on 11 for the forseeable future....

57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?

--whenever i view it on my ipad it seems to work just fine, so i think it is... >*>

58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?

--i don't mind it. i don't know...

59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?

--LOVE!!! i love webrings!!! as of writing this i'm not in any, but once i think there's enough on my site, i'm gonna apply for a buuuunch of webrings!

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?

--soon i'll probably have a bunch! i sort of just tend to gravitate to whatever shrines look interesting to me. can't think of one certain thing i like to see other than someone being really passionate about what their making a shrine of... which they usually are.

61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?

--umm umm Ummmm.. i don't know! *shrug*

62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?

--my ideal website... a cool-looking one i can do whatever on! i think. which is basically what i'm striving for, so yeah.

63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?

--it's a mix of me making my own stuff and looking through pinterest and gifcities for cool things to use.

64. What are your favourite resource sites?

--here's a couple i like!
-bettysgraphics - lots of gifs and backgrounds, reminiscent of old geocities with a lot of "wacky" / cool graphics.

pixelsafari - lots of dividers, blinkies, stamps, and other fun things! be warned though, some graphics have swear words and mentions of drugs and sexual themes.

-kawaiiattic - a site that, it itself, acts as a collection or portal of sorts to other sites. lots of archived personal sites and graphics sites! also has a dedicated section to sozai sites. please note i haven't screened everything on it, some sites may contain content not appropriate for younger netizens.

-and also this! engrampixel. has a lot of cute dividers and pixels! it's a tumblr page, though.

65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?

--website-wise? i've completely redone the coding for pages a lot. which has been helpful, but still...

66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?

--see: question 50

67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?

--i keep it in the html file... for some reason i just couldn't wrap my head around stylesheets... :*{ i'm sure if i tried it now i could easily get the hang of it now that i actually know how to code, but i don't really feel like it right now...

68. What do you think of frameset layouts?

--uhhhhh... i don't knoooow... i haven't looked into them much. they're probably cool... >*>

69. How about table-based layouts?

uhhh.... uhhhh...

70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?

--i'm not too knowledgable on columned layouts... when looking into fc2blog i saw "2-column" and "3-column" used a lot... they seem cool but none of my layouts are like that.

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?

--depends on what i'm working on. right now i'm spending much more time on html than css because this is all written in html! haha ^*^

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.

--no... i need css or else i'll DIE!!!!! lol

73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?

--only when i need to. making layout just for fun seems... well, fun, but i feel like i'd run out of ideas quickly. that or it'd take a while to actually come up with ideas.

74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?

--despite making a whole site now, i still feel like a beginner... i'm probably somewhere in the middle, though. maybe.

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?

--from time to time, yeah. i try not to too much, though. if i do it too much i feel like i'm "copying the kid next to me's homework" as they say...

76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?

--not that i know of / remember...

79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?

-- px! i loooove px!

80. Do you have a favourite font?

--if we're talking about actual site stuff, i kind of just like the default font. if we're talking out of eeeevery font that exists, my favorites are billo (i like how it looks) and Providence Bold (i like how that one looks too, i'm also biased because tamagotchi used it alot)

81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?

--i don't know how exactly it'd work, but if a friend ever asked if i wanted to work on a site with them, i'd probably be like "yeah! that sounds cool!"

82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?

--if by "surfing the web" you mean neocities, then yes! i love finding neat new sites.

83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?

--yes. all the time. i have so many bookmarked sites. and i'd feel honored if somebody bookmarked mine...

84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?

--how unique and colorful it looks! i want something cool and memorable.

85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?

--yeah! i have a huuuuuge tamagotchi collection, as well as an ipad (mostly for drawing, now), and iphone (got it on christmas for when i go outside, need to make calls somehow!), a New Nintendo 3DS XL, and an Old Nintendo 2DS. family-console wise, we also have a WiiU and a Switch.

86. How often and for how long are you online?

--unfortunately very online. like, most of my day... i feel silly saying that. once i get a car i'd love to go out a lot more, but i live in a small town with not much to do. being homeschooled doesn't help that much, either.

87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?

--like it said on the landing page, those 13 and older. :*p

88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?

....uhh.... what's that...

89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?

--i'd like to learn programming one day, but no.

90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?

--i haven't heard of that until now... i have a lot of learning to do....

91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?

--yeah, at the bottom of my home page i have one! i like to see how many people visited! i also like how it looks as a decoration for the page. the one i picked is colorful, i think it fits the page really nicely. :*]

92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?

--no, not really. i'm much less active on forums than i'd like to be, honestly. if we're even counting reddit as a forum site, sometimes i check the tamagotchi subreddit.

93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?

--in the editor! like i said earlier, it has a live preview. i find that very helpful.

94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?

--yeah, my friends think i'm cool! i hope i still seem cool, though, after i just admitted that i spend a lot of time online... (>*<")

95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?

--yeaaaahh... maybe one day i'll make an archive of my old stuff, but right now most of my older art was deleted by me OR was deleted as a consequence of what i posted it on shutting down.

96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?

--i'd leave it up as an archive, and probably also put it up on archive.org just in case. i'd imagine i'd just move somewhere else if i couldn't post here anymore... but i couldn't see myself deleting it!

97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?

--i don't just give away personal information, but other than that yeah, i'm pretty open about my interests!

98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?

--see: Question 33 (+ i have many other friends that i've met online! but from my knowledge, none of them have websites.)

99. And do you optimise the images on your website?

--once or twice for bigger ones, yeah!
